Evette Quoibia, a proud Liberian-Australian chef, made headlines around the world when she officially broke the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon—clocking in at an astonishing 140 hours, 11 minutes, and 11 seconds. That’s five straight days. Her remarkable feat not only speaks to her passion and endurance, but also shines a spotlight on the rich, vibrant flavors of Liberian cuisine.

From her childhood, Quoibia loved cooking and often helped her large family prepare meals. As a restaurant owner in Melbourne, she saw the cooking marathon as a unique opportunity to share her love of West African cuisine with the community.

Preparing for this record attempt involved two months of planning, gathering supplies, and organizing volunteers. Her menu featured a range of Liberian dishes, like jollof rice and cassava leaves, combined with international flavors to appeal to a wider audience. The marathon started with strong community support, reflecting Quoibia’s dedication to her roots. However, the intense schedule had its challenges, pushing her to her limits. Despite the fatigue, the chef remained centered and drew energy from her team and the excitement around her.

When she finally achieved her goal, Chef Quoibia’s joy was palpable. “I was extremely excited and very happy,” she confessed. She celebrated with her community and her friends followed by a long and well-deserved nap for “about three days!”

Her journey stands as a powerful reminder of what determination and community support can achieve. Quoibia’s story encourages others to pursue their dreams, proving that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible. She now looks forward to inspiring the next challenger, eager to see someone else reach for greatness.
